# How to change the chatbox welcome message

*This article explains how to change the welcome message shown in your Crisp chatbox.*

The welcome message is the first greeting visitors see when they open the chatbox. A clear and friendly message can encourage visitors to ask their question and understand what kind of help they can expect.

|| Changing the welcome message only changes the text displayed in the chatbox. It does not change how the widget itself loads on your website.

You can edit the default greeting from your chatbox appearance settings.

__To change the welcome message:__
1. Open [**Crisp**](https://app.crisp.chat).
2. Go to **Settings → Chatbox Settings → Chatbox Appearance**.
3. Open **Welcome Message**.
4. Select or edit the message you want to display.
5. Let Crisp auto-save your change.

For deeper text customization, click on **Advanced Chatbox Customization** under **Settings → Chatbox Settings → Chatbox Appearance → Chatbox Theme**. 
This lets you adapt the widget copy more closely to your brand voice and customer journey.

A default welcome message appears when the visitor opens the chatbox. If you want Crisp to proactively send a message based on visitor behavior, use **Triggers** instead.

Triggers can help you start conversations based on rules such as page visited, time spent on the website, or other visitor behavior.
