How to install the Crisp live-chat chatbox on Shopify stores
This article explains how to install Crisp Live Chat and helpdesk on a Shopify store.
The Crisp Shopify app connects your store to Crisp so your team can chat with shoppers, view ecommerce context, and use Shopify data inside support conversations, workflows, and Hugo AI Agent.
What the Shopify integration adds
Once connected, the Shopify integration brings store data into Crisp so agents can answer faster and with better context.
Depending on your setup and permissions, you can use Shopify data to:
- View customer details → access profile, order history, and ecommerce context from Crisp
- Check carts and orders → see useful cart, order, tracking, and shipping information
- Use dynamic customer data → create templates and workflows using Shopify information
- Synchronize ecommerce events → trigger actions or campaigns from store activity
- Connect Hugo → let Hugo use supported Shopify tools when the MCP integration is enabled
Install Crisp on Shopify
You can start from Crisp or directly from the Shopify App Store. The flow below starts in Crisp.
To install the Shopify app from Crisp:
- Open Crisp or create an account from the signup page.
- Go to Plugins from the Crisp sidebar.
- Search for Shopify.

- Click View details, then Install.
- Continue to the Shopify App Store and click Install.

- Confirm with your Shopify login.
- If you manage multiple stores, choose the store you want to connect.

- Install the app from your Shopify back office.

- Choose whether the Crisp chatbox should be displayed on your storefront.

- Return to Plugins → Shopify in Crisp and confirm that the app is connected.

Use Shopify data in Crisp
After the integration is connected, Shopify data becomes available from Crisp conversations. This helps agents understand who the customer is and what order or cart they are asking about.

Automate support with Shopify data
Shopify events and customer information can help you build better support workflows and campaigns. For example, you can use ecommerce context to segment customers, personalize replies, or trigger automations based on order activity.
Common automation use cases include:
- Customer segmentation → use Shopify tags or synced customer properties in Crisp
- Order-based workflows → react to ecommerce events and order changes
- Personalized templates → include Shopify data in support replies when relevant
- Multichannel support → keep customer context when conversations come from chat, email, social, or messaging channels

Connect Hugo AI Agent to Shopify
Hugo can use native MCP integrations to fetch supported Shopify information, such as customer profile details or order status, when the integration is connected and enabled.
Troubleshooting
If the chatbox does not appear or recent Shopify features are missing, start with the Shopify plugin settings in Crisp.
Useful checks:
- Widget display → confirm the chatbox is enabled in the Shopify plugin settings
- Theme changes → make sure you saved and published Shopify theme changes
- Permissions → re-authenticate the Shopify app if Crisp asks for updated scopes
- Connection status → check Plugins → Shopify in Crisp
