# How to prevent users from seeing when an agent os composing or read a message

*This article explains how to enable operator privacy mode in the Crisp chatbox.*

Operator privacy mode hides read markers and typing animations from visitors. This can be useful when your team wants to read or prepare replies without showing those activity signals in the chatbox.

When a visitor sends a message, the chatbox can normally show that an operator has read it. It can also show a typing animation while an operator is composing a reply.

Operator privacy mode disables those visitor-facing indicators.

The setting is available from the chatbox behavior privacy options.

2. Open **Settings → Chatbox Settings → Chatbox Behavior → Privacy**
3. Enable **Operator privacy mode (eg. disable read markers in chatbox)**
4. Let Crisp auto-save the change

| This only changes what visitors see in the chatbox. Your team can still read and reply to conversations normally from the Crisp inbox.
