How to customize the chatbox
This article explains where to customize the Crisp chatbox and which settings are available.
Crisp lets you adapt the chatbox to your brand by adjusting its colors, texts, behavior, position, and localized wording. Advanced customization now lives directly inside the chatbox settings, instead of in a separate Customization plugin.
Open Advanced Chatbox Customization
The dedicated Customization plugin interface has been replaced by the new chatbox customization experience. All chatbox customizations are now handled from the Crisp app settings.
To open the advanced customization menu:
- Go to Crisp
- Open Settings → Chatbox Settings → Chatbox Appearance
- Go to Chatbox Theme
- Open Advanced Chatbox Customization
What you can customize
You can use the chatbox settings for basic changes, then open Advanced Chatbox Customization when you need deeper control over texts, theme details, and locale-specific wording.
Common customization options include:
- Colors → choose predefined colors or configure custom baseline colors from the advanced customization UI
- Texts → customize chatbox labels, system messages, welcome messages, and other visible wording
- Locales → define a default fallback locale and add localized text overrides per language
- Behavior → manage options such as the availability tooltip, privacy mode, mobile visibility, and homepage section
- Position → display the chatbox on the right or reverse it to the left side of your website
Use search and live preview
The new customization interface includes a search input, so you can quickly find the exact setting or text you want to edit.
Changes can be previewed live on the real chatbox from the same UI. You no longer need to leave the customization screen or save repeatedly just to check how a text or theme change will look.
Customize colors
Color management has been simplified. Instead of manually adjusting many related colors, you now pick the main baseline colors and Crisp automatically generates the lighter and darker variants used by the chatbox.
If you set a custom color, the chatbox settings will prevent switching back through the predefined color picker and will direct you to Advanced Chatbox Customization instead. This keeps custom color setups consistent and avoids overwriting advanced theme settings by mistake.
Customize texts per locale
Chatbox texts can now be localized. Start by editing the Default locale, which acts as the fallback, then add specific locales when you want different wording per language.
This is especially useful for multilingual websites, as visitors can see chatbox texts that match the language they are browsing in.
