How to add a new language to the Knowledge Base

Add languages to your Crisp Knowledge Base so customers can read your help content in their preferred language.

Crisp Knowledge Base supports multiple languages inside the same workspace. You can create the first language when setting up the Knowledge Base, then add more languages later and manage articles separately for each language.

Create the first Knowledge Base language

Before your Knowledge Base can be available online, it needs at least one language.

To create the first language:

  • Go to app.crisp.chat
  • Open Knowledge Base from the left sidebar
  • Confirm that you want to add a language
  • Pick the language you want to start with

To add a new language:

  • Select Add a new language

Each language has its own set of articles and categories. Make sure you are editing the right language before creating or importing content.

To switch languages:

  • Open Knowledge Base
  • Click the language selector in the upper-left area of the Knowledge Base screen
  • Choose the language you want to manage

Copy articles into another language

If you already have articles in one language, you can use the Knowledge Base import tool to copy content into another language. This avoids manually recreating every article from scratch.

To copy articles with the importer:

  • Switch to the destination language first
  • Click Actions in the upper-right corner
  • Select Import articles
  • Paste the URL of the existing Knowledge Base language you want to copy from
  • Start the import and review the imported articles afterwards

Import articles into the selected Knowledge Base language

Always check that you are on the destination language before importing. Importing into the wrong language can duplicate articles in the wrong environment.

Articles are not translated automatically. The importer copies content, so you still need to translate and review each article yourself.

Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions which were not covered in this article? Here is a collection of the most frequently asked questions on this topic.

Are articles translated automatically when I add a language?

No, adding a language does not translate existing articles. Each language has its own content, so you need to translate articles manually or import copied articles and edit the translated version.

Can I have different articles in each language?

Yes, each language can have its own articles and categories. This is useful when some content only applies to specific markets, products, or support processes.

What should I check before importing articles into a new language?

Make sure the destination language is selected first. Then import the source articles, translate the content, and review links, categories, screenshots, and wording before publishing.
