How to protect the Knowledge behind a password

Protect your Crisp Knowledge Base with a password when you want to restrict access to your help content.

Password protection lets you keep your Knowledge Base available only to visitors who know the password. This is useful for private documentation, internal resources, early-stage product docs, or customer-only help centers.

Enable password protection

Start from app.crisp.chat, then open Settings → Knowledge Base Settings → Customize your Knowledge Base → Restrict Access to Knowledge Base.

To protect the Knowledge Base:

  • Enable Restrict Access to Knowledge Base
  • Enter the password visitors should use
  • Save the change
  • Open the public Knowledge Base to test the password screen

Frequently Asked Questions

Still have questions which were not covered in this article? Here is a collection of the most frequently asked questions on this topic.

Can I protect only one article with a password?

No, password protection applies to the Knowledge Base access, not to individual articles. If you need separate access rules, consider splitting content into different resources or keeping sensitive content outside the public Knowledge Base.

Can search engines index a password-protected Knowledge Base?

Protected content is not intended for public indexing. If SEO matters for your help center, keep the Knowledge Base public and avoid password protection.
