How to use Hugo Copilot in Knowledge Base

Learn how to use Hugo Copilot in the Knowledge Base to create, edit, translate, and manage help content with AI.

Hugo Copilot is available directly from the Crisp Knowledge Base. It can work with the article you are viewing, create new content, suggest edits, and perform Knowledge Base actions without requiring you to leave the editor.

For a broader introduction to Copilot, see How to use Hugo Copilot as an AI assistant for customer support teams.

In this guide, you will learn how to:

Understand Hugo Copilot in the Knowledge Base

Open Crisp, go to Knowledge Base, then open Copilot from the bottom-right corner.

Copilot works with the Knowledge Base context you are currently viewing. When an article is open, it can use that content to understand your request and suggest relevant actions.

Two built-in Skills are available for Knowledge Base workflows:

  • /create-article → create a new Knowledge Base article
  • /proofread → review the article currently open in the editor

You can select either Skill from the Copilot panel or enter the command directly. You can also describe other content management tasks in natural language.

Use Hugo Copilot in the Crisp Knowledge Base

Create articles with /create-article

Use /create-article when you want Copilot to prepare a new Knowledge Base article.

Add the topic and useful context after the command. For example:

/create-article Explain how customers can update their billing address

/create-article Write a troubleshooting guide for users who cannot receive email notifications

If important information is missing, Copilot can ask for additional context before creating the article.

Once it has enough information, it creates the content as a draft so you can review it in the editor before publishing.

Give Copilot a clear topic, target reader, and expected outcome when the article requires specific context.

Proofread and edit articles

When an article is open, Copilot can work directly with its content.

Use /proofread for a general review, or describe a specific change in natural language.

For example:

/proofread Shorten the introduction and remove repeated information.

/proofread Replace the comparison table with a list.

/proofread Make this section easier to understand for a first-time user.

Copilot reads the current article and proposes the requested changes directly in the editor.

For targeted edits, tell Copilot exactly what should change rather than asking it to rewrite the entire article.

Manage Knowledge Base content with Copilot

Copilot can also perform actions around your Knowledge Base structure and content.

Depending on your request, you can ask it to:

  • Create articles → draft new content from instructions or available information
  • Create categories → place new content in an appropriate structure
  • Translate articles → create another language version and link it to the original article
  • Change article information → update properties such as the author
  • Research before writing → use available sources when additional information is required

For example, you could ask:

Create a French version of this article and link it to the English version.

Assign Pierre as the author of both articles.

Use the official repository to create a dedicated article for this library.

Copilot handles the steps required by the request and reports what it changed when the task is complete.

Review and approve Copilot actions

Copilot keeps you in control when a task changes or publishes Knowledge Base content.

Article edits are shown as proposed changes in the editor, where you can review them before choosing Accept or Reject.

Actions that require confirmation, such as publishing an article, are presented in Copilot before they are completed.

Review generated content and proposed actions before accepting them, especially when Copilot used external information or made changes across multiple articles.

Create custom Skills for the Knowledge Base

If your team regularly performs the same content task, you can turn it into a custom Copilot Skill.

Open the Copilot settings and select Manage your skills. From there, you can create a personal Skill or use the Skills configured for your workspace.

A Knowledge Base Skill could help with workflows such as:

  • applying your documentation structure to new articles
  • checking content against an internal writing guide
  • preparing release documentation
  • reviewing articles for outdated information

When creating the Skill, define its name, description, instructions, result type, and where it should be available.
